Fall is approaching quickly, but it’s not too late to enjoy some summer fun! Over the past few months I’ve been working hard on my new line of Tropical Beach-themed mini Amigurumi patterns and I’m so excited to be sharing them with you now. These little guys are SO cute! They are great for playsets or baby mobiles (but avoid plastic eyes for small children and embroider the eyes instead), and they also make fun keychains or backpack charms.

I also love taking them on photoshoots around my beautiful new home of Nova Scotia. <3 I know I know, Nova Scotia isn’t exactly the first place that comes to mind when you think ‘tropical paradise’. But we do have beaches, at least! I’d like to take these guys somewhere tropical for a photoshoot one day, but until the world settles down a bit this is the best I’m going to get. 🙂

About My Tropical Beach Mini Amigurumi Series

My Tropical Beach Amigurumi series came about initially because I was planning to do a spring craft fair, and I needed some small summer-themed items I could quickly make and sell as keychains. For fall fairs I usually sell Christmas ornaments, but in May people aren’t quite ready to think about the holidays yet! My minor obsession with flamingos compelled me to start with the Mini Flamingo Floatie, and I just fell in love with him. My own big flamingo floatie is back in storage in Vancouver and I missed it this summer! I can’t exactly float around the lake on this guy, but he sits on my desk and brings some summer warmth into my life as I work.

Flamingo complete, I started to brainstorm other tropical beach themed ideas. At one point I had concept sketches for over 10 projects, and I envisioned compiling my first ever Amigurumi pattern ebook. But between pandemic stress, a wrist injury, and summer creeping up far too quickly on me, I ended up compromising with myself and choosing just a few of my favourite ideas to finish. The result is the six patterns you see below. For the yarn, I chose to use Paintbox Yarns Simply DK series (affiliate link), which is affordable and available in a wide range of colours. So much pretty!! <3 You can purchase the yarn through LoveCrafts, and they also sell the range of Paintbox Yarns colours in other weights and fibres.

Mini Flamingo Floatie Amigurumi Pattern

Don’t you just love spending warm summer days drifting lazily across a lake on a giant inflatable flamingo? Now you can carry some of that summer warmth with you every day of the year by attaching this cute little flamingo floatie to your keychain or backpack!

Mini Pineapple Amigurumi Pattern

This pineapple is the coolest pineapple on the block, with his hot pink sunglasses and prickly exterior. Underneath that tough shell, though, his true self is soft, squishy, and lovable!

Mini Sea Turtle Amigurumi Pattern

This friendly little turtle loves to play in the sea and he makes friends wherever he goes! Sea turtles can live up to 100 years, so he is sure to be a cheerful and loyal addition to your family for many years to come.

Mini Crab Amigurumi Pattern

Crabs can be a bit scary looking, with all those legs and their scuttling movements, but this cute little crab really just wants to be everyone’s friend! Won’t you give him a home?

Mini Jellyfish Amigurumi Pattern

Jellyfish have a bad reputation for painfully stinging unlucky swimmers, but this jellyfish just wants to say hi! She doesn’t understand why her new friends scream and swim away from her whenever she gives them a friendly wave of her tentacles…

Mini Palm Tree Amigurumi Pattern

Nothing quite evokes a tropical paradise like a palm tree. Soft sand beaches, clear blue waters, and above it all the breeze rustling gently through the palm trees… Sadly this cute little palm tree isn’t quite big enough to sway in the wind, but it will definitely still bring some tropical vibes into your life!

  1. Thank you. Perfect timing, a friend of mine has moved to Florida now for good no more being a snowbird. These will be a fun gift for her.
